Pagers Explode Across Lebanon
A synchronized detonation of thousands of pagers has resulted in over a thousand injuries across Lebanon. The devices, integral to Hezbollah’s communication network, were targeted in a sophisticated attack that the group blames on Israel.
The explosions, which occurred almost simultaneously, have caused significant damage and injury, including to Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani. The incident is being described as one of the most severe breaches of Hezbollah’s security since the group intensified its support for Hamas in the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Hezbollah, recognized as a terrorist organization by both the United States and the European Union, has been embroiled in frequent clashes with Israel since the Gaza war began in October 2023. The pagers, which Hezbollah members rely on due to a directive to avoid mobile phones, were detonated in strongholds across southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The Lebanese National News Agency has called the event “an unprecedented enemy security incident,” emphasizing the scale and coordination of the pager explosions. Hezbollah has labeled the incident the “biggest security breach” it has faced, citing the simultaneous detonations as evidence of an Israeli operation to undermine their communications.
As tensions escalate, the impact on Hezbollah’s operational capabilities and the broader regional conflict remains uncertain.
