Sep 2, 2024 – Jammu Army Base Attacked by the terrorists, one Soldier is Injured, and A Search Operation is Underway. A terrorist attack near the Sunjawan military camp in Jammu, the largest army base in the region, left one army jawan injured on Monday morning. The attack occurred between 10:00 and 10:30 AM, with terrorists firing from a stand-off distance, according to defense spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
In response to the attack, the army base has been sealed off, and a search operation has been launched to locate the terrorists. The situation is being closely monitored and further details are awaited as the operation continues.
This attack comes on the heels of several recent infiltration attempts in Jammu and Kashmir. Just a few days ago, security forces eliminated three terrorists in two separate encounters in the Kupwara district. In another incident in Jammu’s Rajouri district, security forces engaged in a gunfight with terrorists hiding in the Lathi area.
The Sunjawan military camp has been targeted before. In February 2018, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists attacked the camp, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists. Twenty others, including soldiers and civilians, were injured in that attack.
These incidents come at a crucial time as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for upcoming assembly elections. The region has seen heightened security measures, with the administration and defense forces closely assessing the situation. The ongoing violence has already claimed the lives of security personnel and civilians this year.
The situation remains tense as authorities continue their search operations in response to the latest attack.
