Ibrahim Aqil Killed in Israeli Strike
Ibrahim Aqil Killed in Israeli Strike in Beirut: In a major escalation of hostilities, Israel announced the killing of Ibrahim Aqil, a high-ranking Hezbollah military commander, during a targeted strike in Beirut, Hezbollah’s stronghold. Aqil was the head of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force and considered the second-in-command within the group’s military structure, following Fuad Shukr, who was also killed in a strike earlier this year.
The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that the strike also claimed the lives of approximately 10 other senior commanders from the Radwan Force. Aqil, also known by his alias Hajj Abdul Qader, was a critical figure in Hezbollah’s ground operations, and his death marks a significant blow to the group’s military leadership.
Hezbollah acknowledged Aqil’s death, honoring him as a prominent leader who had played a pivotal role in shaping the group’s military strategy. Aqil had long been a target of the United States due to his involvement in several high-profile terrorist activities, including the 1983 bombing of the US embassy in Beirut, which left 63 dead. The US had placed a $7 million bounty on Aqil, citing his involvement in hostage-taking and bombings across Europe during the 1980s.
With the loss of Aqil, Hezbollah faces the challenge of replacing one of its most experienced military leaders amid growing tensions in the region.
