Haryana Assembly Election 2024 Postponed to Respect Asoj Amavasya Festival Celebration

Haryana Election

The Haryana Assembly Election has been deferred from 1st October to 5th October to ensure everyone including the Bishnoi community can participate in both their Asoj festival and the election process. Counting will take place on 8th October 2024.

Haryana Assembly Election Date Changed

The Election Commission has deferred the Haryana Assembly election to 5th October 2024, in place of the earlier date of 1st October. This change was made to respect the Bishnoi community to celebrate an important Asoj festival on 2nd October. 2nd October is also celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti.

Why the Election was Postponed?

The Bishnoi community in Haryana has a long-standing tradition of traveling to Mukam, a village in Rajasthan to celebrate the Asoj Amavasya festival. This year the festival falls on 2nd October just one day after the original election date. Many families from Haryana would be traveling during this time, which would make it difficult for them to vote.

To ensure that everyone can participate in the election and celebrate their traditions, the Election Commission decided to change the election date. This is not the first time the Election Commission has made such a change. In previous elections, the EC has postponed voting dates to respect the beliefs and traditions of different communities.

New Poll and Counting Dates

Now th people of Haryana will vote on 5th October 2024. The counting of votes for both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir where elections are also being held in three phases i.e.18th September, 25th, and 1st October 2024 will take place place on 8th October 2024. This way the election process is fair and everyone gets a chance to vote.

Haryana Election Date

By postponing the election dates the EC has shown respect for the traditions of the Bishnoi community while ensuring that all citizens can exercise their right to vote. This decision highlights the importance of balancing cultural practices with the democratic process.
