Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ After Fallout With Trump Over Budget Bill

Elon Musk forms the America Party, challenging the US two-party system after clashing with President Trump over the controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

In a bold and unexpected political move, billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has launched a brand-new political party in the United States, marking a dramatic escalation in his ongoing feud with President Donald Trump. Named the “America Party”, this new political outfit is Musk’s response to what he describes as a “broken and corrupt system” driven by both Republicans and Democrats.

Musk’s announcement came just a day after the US celebrated Independence Day. On July 5, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to declare that the America Party had officially been formed. According to Musk, the goal is simple: to return power and freedom to everyday Americans and to challenge the dominance of what he called a “one-party system disguised as two.”

This political move follows a public and highly visible fallout between Musk and Trump. The dispute began after President Trump signed the controversial federal budget legislation dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill”, which Musk openly criticized. He believes the bill will dangerously increase the national deficit by an estimated $3.4 trillion over the next decade and accused lawmakers of wasting taxpayer money.

Once a close ally of Trump, Musk had supported his 2024 re-election campaign and even headed the newly created Department of Government Efficiency. However, their relationship has soured quickly and publicly, with Musk now vowing to use his influence and wealth to defeat lawmakers who backed the bill. “They will lose their primary next year if it’s the last thing I do,” Musk posted online recently.

Adding fuel to the fire, Musk conducted a poll on July 4 asking whether Americans wanted to break away from the two-party system. With over 1.2 million participants, nearly two-thirds voted “yes”. Encouraged by the result, Musk wasted no time in declaring the creation of the America Party, claiming it was the will of the people.

President Trump, for his part, has not taken the criticism lightly. He responded by threatening to cut the billions of dollars in federal subsidies that Musk’s companies receive. In a press interaction, Trump even hinted at the possibility of revoking Musk’s citizenship or deporting him—despite Musk having been a naturalized US citizen since 2002.

Political analysts are watching this development closely, as Musk has hinted at a very specific strategy. Instead of launching a full-blown national campaign, the America Party plans to target a handful of Senate and House races in the 2026 midterms. Musk said the focus will be on two to three Senate seats and eight to ten House districts that are vulnerable and could shift power in Congress. The goal is not to take over Congress immediately, but to become a kingmaker in close legislative decisions.

Despite his financial power and massive online following, experts warn that starting a new political party in the US is a massive challenge. Ballot access laws vary from state to state, and running a national campaign infrastructure requires years of preparation and resources. Nonetheless, Musk appears undeterred.

What remains to be seen is whether this political gamble will pay off or simply end up as another billionaire passion project. One thing is certain: the America Party has made its debut in a time of deep political division, economic uncertainty, and rising public distrust in traditional politics.

For now, Trump has stayed mostly silent about Musk’s new party, but with the 2026 midterms approaching and 2028 on the horizon, the battle lines in American politics may be redrawn in ways no one saw coming.
